What Not to Do If Your Baby Has Acne
So the time has finally come to bring your little bundle of joy home from the hospital. At first you admire how your baby’s skin is beautiful and untarnished but soon you start noticing your baby seems to be developing a bit of baby acne. Now, it is important that you don’t behave as though you were treating adult acne. Baby acne treatment must be handled very specifically.
You need to understand that your baby’s acne is not the same as that of a teenage or adolescent. It is not caused by lack of proper hygiene of even oily skin. In fact, most experts agree that baby acne treatment is so different because your baby’s acne is actually caused by leftover hormones passed on by his or her mother.
A mother’s hormones are not the only cause of baby acne. Another well known cause of baby acne includes skin irritants such as the detergent or soap you are using. If this is the case there is no need to panic. You can simply stop using whatever it is causing the irritation and your baby’s acne should fade on its own. No further baby acne treatment is required.
For whatever reason when the average person sees a pimple they have this uncontrollable urge to squeeze it. Whether its just habit or misguided attempts at removing the blemish you should never squeeze your baby’s acne. This is much more torture for you little loved one rather than an effective baby acne treatment. You will only cause them pain and discomfort attempting to pop these baby zits.
So now that you understand that baby acne is completely normal and in no way harmful to your baby I hope you will understand that baby acne treatment is rarely needed if ever. Only in very severe cases will baby acne persists for more than four weeks after birth in which case I strongly recommend you bring the issue to the attention of your baby’s pediatrician.
